Steganography allows you to encrypt a secret file and make it invisible by hiding it inside another file. Your sensitive data will be stored and transmitted to the intended recipient in a double-safe way: what is important is that a file is not just encrypted but first of all it is invisible being hidden inside an innocuous file which would not arouse suspicion.

Files of almost any type can function as a carrier file. A carrier file can be supplied with multiple hidden files at a time: files that already exist or small instant messages that are created right inside the program.
For example, you can place a secret message and a picture inside a song. When you have added files to a carrier file you need to password-protect it and the same password must be used to unhide the secret files later. Different carrier files can be protected by different passwords. However, you should be careful not to forget a password.

When you place some files inside a file, you do not spoil it since you can actually save it to another location using the save as function keeping the original file intact. Indeed, even the carrier file is absolutely normal in the way that hidden files do not affect it. If it is a song it will be displayed and played as a song, and only those who know that there is something more to it and who know the password will be able to extract the secret messages.
