1st Read It Aloud! lets you play any electronic text in a customized spoken voice. You just have to select a text and the program will read it to you.

You can select a voice from voices of several different people. Besides, to make your listening most pleasant and enjoyable you can alter voice properties such as the pitch of voice, volume and speed of reading. You can set a default voice as well as assign hot keys to other customized voices. When you adjust a voice, the program allows you to test it before applying it.

1st Read It Aloud! offers you both male and female voices, but unfortunately these female voices sound extremely artificial, more like male with high pitch.

The intonation changes and pauses are made depending on the punctuation marks (such as comma, full stop, exclamation and question mark, etc). However, sometimes the speech sounds weird and unnatural, for example when the program fails to split the text into meaningful fragments and the pauses are placed in the wrong places. But on the whole the text is read out loud quite well. You can also correct the pronunciation of some words when it doesn’t obey the general rules.

The program installs with English voice engine but you can download extra voice engines in other languages.
