Photo to Color Sketch lets you make your photos look like artistic drawings or paintings, i.e. pencil sketches, water colors, etc. The interface consisting of several draggable panels seems rather chaotic. You select a specific effect by checking a corresponding radio button on the bottom panel. After you select this or that effect, more windows pop up and the interface gets still more crowded.

As for the artistic side, there are 4 black & white effects (pencil sketch, pen sketch, kryptol and pen&ink). Of these four, the first does look like a real hand-made sketch (at least more than the three others do). There are also color effects representing four painting styles: realism, pop art, abstract and water color. When you select a radio button for any of the effects, a dialog with adjustable number parameters pops up. However, the meaning of the numbers are not made clear to users, so you can only play with the numbers and see how it affects the result image.

The software also lets you apply ready foreground masks or import your own image to use it as a background.

Unfortunately, the program does not have a help document, except for a short online FAQ. Still, you can get interesting results provided you have patience and are ready to experiment.

What we liked is a variety of saving and publishing options, letting you print the result picture or set it as wallpaper directly from the program.
